I am recently just back from a weekend break with my better half. We were in, as you can probably guess, Edinburgh
Im going to handle the hotel in a different post
We had an amazing time altogether. It is a beautiful city, and i suppose our first tourist tour really spoiled us, as it was amazing. We took one of the open top bus tours, and we were the only ones on the bus, it was the first of the day, so that, and it being a friday, probably accounted for the poor numbers. It was great, a Mac Tours bus. I didnt catch the name of the guy on the mic, but he sat in front of us, we sat up the top at the very front! He was deadly, very funny, and had plenty of little anecdotes of his own!
From this tour we were able to plan out the rest of the trip, seeing briefly all the great sights of edinburgh, the Castle of course, but also the new town, and all the amazing architecture of the town, it really is breath taking.
After that trip we wandered around the centre of edinburgh, taking in the Balmoral and Princes Street. My better half had planned this well, and a fair had setup on the side of princes street for christmas. It had a german market and various amusements, including a ferris wheel! Some nice stuff there. We saw some interesting sculptures on the street, including one of all of edinburgh, which i thought was cool. Went into theScottish Art Museum after that. Didnt do a whole lot for either of us, but at least we could saw we went there, thought little of it!
After that we went to the edinburgh dungeon! It was deadly! B was terrified, but i was loving it. It was really good, the actors were very funny, and a bit weird!
We had lunch in an Italian place about half way up the Royal Mile, it was lovely, i had spaghetti and meat balls, it was really lovely!
We went for a stroll around teh palce after that, and to be honest i cant differentiate the days!
B will kill me for that!
Friday night we ate in the restaurant in the basement of the hotel. It was amazing, the staff were superb. The restaurant is called Haldanes, www.haldanesrestaurant.com, and it was just brilliant. The service is so amazing in the place, and it was quite reasonable. I had the venison, it was delicious, and B had the risotto, made with mushrooms, so i have no idea how that tasted!!
We had a great start to our break. We reflected on the day in front of a roaring fire with some tea and fudge!

Sweet Jumping Jesus in a straw hat!
Anyone who knows me knows my feelings on politics and politicians, unfortunately getting them all into a pit, and with the price of petrol, I’m afraid that I’ll have to let that fantasy go for a good while
But seriously, Fianna Fail. They have rode the country for the last 15 years. They have spent every cent of the Celtic tiger. They have absolutely no idea what to do. Their best man, Bertie, saw it all coming, knew there was nothing he could do, and high-tailed it (be that very clever or complete cowardice, I’ll leave up to you). Now we are left with a shower of muppets who could lead their way out of a paper bag, but would leave two toll-booths, an unfinished ring road, and management company fees for the lovely bit of green said paper bag was first flung on.
My better half says that they are still the best option for the country, that all the opposition do is criticise them, not offer solutions. But it is not the job of the opposition to provide solutions, that is what government is supposed to do.
So where do we go from here. I for one am all for change. I have two solutions
Vote for the opposition (i am Labor biased, my mother being a Labor councillor)
Vote for Me. I will sort the whole thing out. I have no political agenda bar sort all this shite out, i have no problem beating a few bankers and builders and putting them into their place. I have no issue in burning the HSE to the ground and hiring private contractors to sort the whole thing out. I have no issue working for 60K a year, tax free mind!
So, next election, vote Corporate_Zombie!
