fucking weather is mental!
In server 2008 we can map drives, and specifically target the mappings to specific security groups or organisational units.
This is very handy, no more messing around with VBS in login scripts
However, we must ensure that on XP Machines the following update is applied.
If the above is not applied, the Group Policy will be applied, but the mapped drives will not appear. Very confusing i must admit when i encountered it!
Additionally here is a handy tutorial to setting up the mapped drives.

Clearly this is meant for an EEE pc but the theory stands to all machines with no CD Drive
